Billing and plans

Billing belongs to an organisation, not to a machine or a Works. The Billing tab in Settings reads your organisation's current plan and the plan catalogue from the account service, and hands payment to a hosted checkout page in your browser. Card details are never entered in hm.app.

Open the Billing tab

1. Click the organisation button at the top of the sidebar and choose Settings, or press G then S.
2. Choose Billing, under Account.

The tab needs a signed-in account. Signed out, it says Sign in to see billing for your organisation. Signed in but not in an organisation yet, it says that billing belongs to an organisation and asks you to create or join one on the account surface first.

What the tab shows

• Organisation — the organisation in view.
• Current plan — the plan's name, with a note saying either that it is free for your organisation or whether it is billed monthly or yearly.
• Members — how many human members the organisation is billed for. Where the plan has an allowance the tab shows it, and says so when the organisation is over it.
• All plans — each plan in the catalogue, marked Paid or Free, with how its company charge and its per-member charge are set.

A billed member is a person who has joined the organisation. The tab spells out that a pending invitation is not one, and that agents and hands are not billed.

Upgrade to Team

Owners and admins of an organisation on a free plan see Upgrade to Team.

1. Under Billing period, choose Monthly or Yearly.
2. Press Upgrade now.

hm.app asks the account service to start a checkout for the organisation in view and opens the page it answers with in your default browser. The desktop refuses to open an address that is not on the payment provider's hosted checkout or billing pages. You enter card details there. When you are done, choose the Billing tab again and it reads the plan afresh.

Manage a paid plan

Once the organisation is on a paid plan, or has been through checkout, owners and admins see Manage. It opens the hosted billing portal for your organisation in your browser. If the portal cannot be opened, the tab says so under the buttons, with the reason.

If you are not an owner or admin

Everybody signed in to the organisation sees the current plan, the member count and the catalogue. Upgrade now and Manage are shown only to owners and admins. Open billing on account → is there for everyone and opens the billing page on the account surface.

What a plan does not cover

A plan does not include model usage. The agents run against your own model account, and your provider bills you for that directly; see Executors and your model account.

Billing is also not where your project lives. The Billing tab touches your organisation's plan and nothing else, and your Works and its history stay on your machine whichever plan the organisation is on.
