DOCS / YOUR ORGANISATION

Members and invitations

Where hm.app sends you to see who is in your organisation and to invite somebody, and what it shows about your own membership.

The people in your organisation, and the invitations that bring new ones in, are managed on the account surface at account.hmcortex.com. hm.app does not draw its own copy of the roster. It gives you two doors to it from the Works menu, and it shows you where you stand in Settings.

See who is in your organisation

  1. Click the organisation button at the top of the sidebar to open the Works menu.
  2. Choose Members →.

Your browser opens the members page for the organisation in view, which lists everybody in it and their roles.

Invite somebody

  1. Open the Works menu.
  2. Choose Invite somebody →.

The invitation form for the organisation in view opens in your browser. Neither row puts a token or a session in the address it opens: the browser uses the sign-in it already holds.

When the rows are greyed out

Members → and Invite somebody → are live only when there is an organisation to open. Hover a greyed-out row and it names the state it is waiting for:

  • Sign in to reach your organisation. This desktop is not signed in. See Sign in and your organisation.
  • You are not in an organisation yet — create or join one on the account surface.
  • The account service has not been reached yet. You are signed in, and the desktop has not had an answer about your membership. The rows light up once it does.

See your own membership

Open Settings from the Works menu (Settings, or press G then S) and choose Account. Alongside your email, the pane lists what the account service reports about you:

  • Organisation — the organisation in view, or None yet if you are not in one.
  • Your role — your role in that organisation.
  • Memberships — shown only when you belong to more than one organisation.

These rows are read-only. The desktop has no control that changes a role or removes a member.

If you belong to more than one organisation

The Works menu adds Switch organisation → when you are in more than one. It opens the organisation area in your browser, because which organisation is in view is chosen there and not in hm.app. Members and invitations always act on the organisation in view.

Why the Members tab is disabled

Settings lists a Members tab under Workspace, and it cannot be selected. The account service tells the desktop which organisations you belong to and your role in each. It does not give the desktop a list of who else is in one, so a tab drawn from that answer would show an organisation with a single member. Hovering the tab points you to Members in the Works menu instead.

What membership does not reach

Membership is about people and their access to the organisation's account. It does not reach into a Works: a Works is a folder on your machine, and adding somebody to your organisation gives them nothing inside the one on your computer. See A Works for where that boundary sits.
